Getting Started with Funmo POS
Welcome to Funmo! We've designed this platform to be the heartbeat of your business. Whether you run a bustling salon, a retail shop, or a service center, getting set up is designed to be intuitive and fast.
1. Configure your Business Profile
The first step is ensuring your business details are accurate. Navigate to Settings > Business Profile to upload your logo, set your tax rates, and define your operating currency. These details will appear on every receipt you issue, so it's important to get them right from day one.
2. Add your Staff & Permissions
Funmo thrives on teamwork. Go to the Staff section to invite your team members. You can assign roles like 'Manager', 'Cashier', or 'Stylist'. Pro Tip: Use the permission toggles to control who can offer discounts or void transactions. This keeps your revenue secure while empowering your team.
3. Input your Inventory or Services
If you sell products, use the Inventory tab to upload your stock list via CSV or add items manually. For service-based businesses, head to Services to define your menu, prices, and duration. Don't forget to add high-quality images—they look great on the POS screen and help new staff identify items quickly.
Mastering the Point of Sale
Processing Sales
To process a quick sale, navigate to the POS tab. You can search for products by name or scan a barcode. Once items are in the cart, tap 'Charge' and select the payment method (Cash, M-Pesa, or Card). M-Pesa prompts are sent automatically to the customer's phone.
Discounts & Custom Notes
Need to apply a discount? Tap the percentage icon on the cart item or the subtotal for a whole-cart discount. You can also add notes to a sale (e.g., "Customer promised pickup at 5 PM") which will appear on the receipt and in the order history.
Refunds & Returns
Go to Sales History, find the transaction using the receipt number or customer name, and tap 'Issue Refund'. You can refund specific items or the entire order. Stock levels are automatically adjusted back to your inventory.
Daily Reconciliation
At the end of the day, generate a Z-Report from the settings menu. This summarizes total sales by payment method. Count your physical cash and enter the amount to spot any discrepancies immediately.
Team & Commissions
Automated Commissions
Stop calculating commissions manually on paper. In the Staff settings, assign a commission percentage (e.g., 10% on Services, 5% on Retail) to each employee. Funmo tracks every sale tagged to a stylist and generates a payout report at the end of the week or month.
Scheduling & Shifts
Set weekly working hours for your team. This prevents bookings from being made when staff are off-duty. Employees can also clock in/out directly from the POS tablet, giving you accurate timesheets for payroll.

Can I use Funmo POS offline?
Yes! Funmo is designed with an 'Offline First' architecture. You can process sales, add customers, and manage bookings without an internet connection. Data will automatically sync to the cloud once you're back online.
How do I upgrade my subscription?
Navigate to the Dashboard and look for the 'Subscription' card or banner. You can choose a new plan and pay immediately via M-Pesa or Card. Upgrades are instant.
Can I limit what my staff can see?
Absolutely. When you invite a staff member, you assign them a Role. 'Basic' users can only make sales, while 'Managers' can access reports and settings. You can fine-tune these permissions in the Settings menu.
Does Funmo support thermal printers?
We support most ESC/POS Bluetooth and USB thermal printers. Go to Settings > Hardware to scan for and pair your printer. We also support cash drawer kick-outs.
